In The Spotlight!
Hey everyone! Thanks for visiting my page where I will be spotlighting select individuals that are helping others around them either with a handmade product or with something they promote 🙂
Check out the below for this month's featured in the spotlight!
Hi! My name is Jennifer Kirby and I'm the owner of Bugs & Mugs Boutique. When we first opened, my sewing was a way to blow of some steam from the daily duties of a stay at home mom. Being a stay at home mom was not something I actually ever thought I'd be doing, so it took me some time to “get use to it”.
My life had always revolved around volunteering and working long hard hours. To back up a little, here's where it all started…
Life And The Unexpected
When I was 16 I joined my first volunteer EMS department, and it made me fall head over heels in love with helping people. I think that's where my passion really started with spreading love to others that I didn't even know. From there I worked for several different departments within Virginia and North Carolina until 2009 when I wanted to join the Army at the age of 25.
I only wanted to join as a medic, and I did! I arrived to Fort Bragg, NC in 2010 and I was excited to get started with this new life! Well it had other plans…In 2011 I was involved in a training accident. That was a turning point in what I thought was going to be a long happy Army career. I ended up having surgery on my hip for some damage done in the accident and that surgery ended my ability to remain in the service.
When I got out, it was a hard transition for me. I was a new mom and not working for the first time in my life. I needed something, so I started sewing.
A New Love Was Born
I honed my skill and was selling regularly, and then our 2 year old daughter got sick. We were in and out of the hospital frequently and met some of the sweetest nursing staff and other parents. When someone would come in with a donation for her, she would be thrilled and it clicked. That's what I wanted to do. I want to sew to primarily donate.
Nothing is sweeter than spreading of hearts to help others!
It took me awhile to find my niche, and during this time it wasn't easy. I'm currently waiting to undergo my third hip surgery, and have no idea if/when I can return to work. I'm so lucky to have a supportive, loving husband that wants me to sew for fun and donate to relieve the stress of everyday life ❤
Now Here's An Idea!
I loved buying LLR clothing from my friends, and supporting their business ventures. During that time I noticed they were having some minor issues with defects, and wondered what they did with them. I asked and they said most got tossed. That's when I had my first brilliant idea of what I could do with all that fabric! Headbands, hats, lovies, pants….the ideas were endless of what we could do!!
So far, with all the LulaRoe donations that have been coming in, I've donated to the Womack Army Medical Center, Texas Children's Hospital, Madigan Army Medical Center, and Fayetteville VA Hospital. I also hand out hats to the homeless local to us, and this coming year I hope to start making quilts as well!
Thanks so much for taking the time to read my story. I cannot wait to see what 2017 has in store for us!!
I am so excited to have the opportunity to spotlight Jennifer! As soon as I read her story I knew that getting the word out about her work and donations was a must.
