In The Spotlight!
Hey everyone! Thanks for visiting my page where I will be spotlighting select individuals that are helping others around them either with inspiration or with a product they promote.
This months article is going to be written a bit differently. Rather than written by the featured spotlight, this month Lee will be surprised!
Check out below for what his amazing wife was able to help me pull off ❤
Everyone Meet Marion Lee Everhart!
Known to everyone as Lee, this month's featured spotlight sets the bar extremely high when it comes to helping out in his community. Once you read below, you'll soon agree that this man is just about everywhere he can be!
Graduating from Lamar University in 1976 with a BBA in Marketing, Lee went on to work at Texas Commission Environmental Quality for 31 years. He put countless hours of service into his work while there and if that wasn't enough, he took on a bigger role outside of work and found his true calling.
In May of 2000, Lee began preaching at Old Laurel Baptist Church and continues to this day. During his earlier years, Lee made 8 mission trips to the Ukraine! I recall one trip where he was taking some special items for the children there and was really excited to see them smile.
That's one thing you can say about him, he is always joyous and doing what he can to bring light into others' lives. He truly loves his congregation and seeing the youth of the church grow and become the bright adults he knows they can be just makes him beam.
Studying very hard, proudly in 2011, Lee became an Ordained Minister.
There are so many but Lee's absolute favorite is Isaiah 40:8 The grass withers and the flowers fade but the Word of our Lord will endure forever. I can picture him smiling when he reads this too 🙂
Still Serving More….
For some, working a full-time job and preaching at the same time would take up all the time they had but Lee strives to help even more. Just check out a few “side jobs” Lee has had an hand in throughout the years:
- Board of Directors at East Texas Baptist Encampment (Emmanuel Association)
- Several positions on committees with the Sabine Neches Baptist Area
- Bi-Vocational Pastor of the year
- Chairman of the Disaster Relief
- Served on the Helping Place 6 years
SEE! I told ya!
That's The Tip Of The Iceberg
Lee has been the Team Chaplain for 16 years for the Buna Cougar football team. Amazingly during those 16 years, he has been at every home and away game! Whoa!
Just take a look at this photo. See his face amidst his prayer? When I saw it, I felt so much passion for what he does through it! This was one of my favorite facts that Debbie shared.
Proud Moments In The Church
While preaching is pretty top notch in the proud category there are two more that follow right in line.
This is a very special moment for both people in this photo. You see, this is his mom 🙂 Yep! He had the opportunity to baptize his own mom. I'd say that's a pretty proud moment wouldn't you?
And just look at her smile too. I can still picture her saying “Now Marion, don't you let me go” Lol!
And of course the kids have an extra special place in his heart. These two were a special baptismal too because they are brother and sister. Just look at the joy in Lee (and the kids!) on this special day!
Bringing people together as they join in holy matrimony is an extra special aspect of being a pastor.
For Lee, this congregation is a very close family and performing these ceremonies is a great honor for him.
The left photo is a really cool day because he married one of his nieces and the couple on the right are really good friends of theirs. It's pretty neat to help two souls start their journey together ❤
Speaking Of Marriage
In August of 2017, Lee and Debbie will be celebrating 15 years of marriage. She says “Wow, I didn't realize it has been that long! It seems like only yesterday”. They enjoy every bit of life and they each have a love that many dream to have. Both are retired now but as you continue to read, you'll see that it hasn't slowed any of the activities down one bit!
Lee has been retired for 5 years now and I think he's busier than ever! While still managing his Ministry duties, Lee also helps out at the Funeral Home in Buna/Kirbyville, Texas. Not only driving the hearse, he also helps out with the services.
With his wife by his side, they are always carving out time for the fun things in life.
Such As Theme Nights
What a fun time during the Revival at Old Laurel! It was Hawaii themed and having one of Lee and Debbie's favorite pastors there with them made it even better 🙂
And Christmas Fun
One thing that Lee always enjoys doing is getting their Christmas lights up. He leads the neighborhood and has them up first including his cross 🙂
Along with many other activities Lee does during the holidays, this is one he really looks forward to. Christmas story telling the Sunday before Christmas. Look how all the children are just in awe listening. They really enjoy him!
You know you have a great pastor when the kids don't want them to be left out. For one activity the kids made tie-dyed shirts and they just had made one for him too!
Now those are some awesome kids…..Just look at his smile! The kids are always presenting him with gifts Debbie says. That's pretty cool in my book ❤
Hobbies? (Is there time?!)
Yep, you bet! (Lol I told you this man is everywhere!)
Preaching and singing are definitely at the top of his list but there are a few others that come close to the top as well.
Let's start with being “Lee Lee” a.k.a. Grandpa. These 3 kiddos are truly the apple of his eye and you can hear how proud he is anytime you ask him about them!
Whether it's seeing Zane playing in the orchestra, spending story time with Kade or attending Miss Macy's ballet recital, Lee Lee is around for anything and everything he can with these special grand kids of his.
The annual chili cook off is another hobby of his. Every year Debbie and Lee make up special batches of this good stuff and have a ball doing it. “It's our annual chili cook-off!” he tells me. That reminds me I need to get that recipe from them!
NASCAR….this man and his wife are fans! HUGE FANS! If there's a race, he's either watching it live or recording to watch later. He's politely let everyone know to not disclose the race details if he can't watch it live! Ha!
And finally, Walmart. This man loves to go to Walmart Lol He could spend hours there and he comes by it honestly. His mother could spend a whole day in there if you let her! Just trundling around looking at this and that 🙂
All in all I think you'd agree that this is a pretty special, caring and active man! Touching the lives of everyone around him you can't help but pick up his loving energy and aspire to live a life of joy like he has.
And now I'll spill the beans a bit. This was a very special article to write because you see, I'm proud to call him my uncle 🙂 Yep!
It's crazy how you know someone but when it comes down to doing a life bio, you learn so much more! I am extremely proud of every achievement that Uncle Lee has made and honored to be his niece.
I couldn't be more thankful for my Aunt Debbie who sent me all the fun facts. This was exciting for her but also hard because she has held this secret in for a whole month! Bless her heart trying to get information and photos to me without him knowing! She is truly the best Aunt I could hope for. Not just for this, but for living this extraordinary life with my Uncle 🙂
Thank you everyone for reading this story, it means a lot! Don't forget to head over to Facebook by clicking here to give Old Laurel Baptist Church a thumbs up on their page!
